About Me

A couple of years ago I was on youtube looking for recipe videos on Haitian cuisine and couldn't find a great one. Most would say "Well why do you need a video when you have your mom there?" True my mom is here but like most American born Haitians I rely on the internet a lot so I wanted to get my info from there. Since the earthquake that devastated Haiti in 2010 a little more attention has been paid to Haiti and its culture. A lot of videos for Haitian cuisine started popping up, still different from what I was looking for.

After not being able to find the information that I needed online I decided that maybe I need to start taking note as to what my momma was doing in the kitchen. Through conversations with her, lots of family and friends I started compiling together recipes. The original thought was to only write a cookbook but then I wanted to include a DVD with the book that displayed how to cook popular dishes. After speaking with a close friend she convinced me that the DVD probably wouldn't be a good idea and that I should just do videos and post them to YouTube. That's how the Youtube channel came to life!

Most non-Haitians only know about Black rice and Griot when there is so much more that Haitian cuisine has to offer. I hope to shed more light on that and help make Haitian cuisine as popular as Chinese, Italian, Mexican, etc etc.

There maybe a book in the future but for now, this is my way of helping preserve Haitian culture. The  videos are for people who are interested in learning about Haitian cuisine, someone who might not have someone there to physically teach them how to cook, anyone who wants to try different foods, etc etc. My crew and I have been working hard on everything that has to do with this project so expect great things!!

We appreciate your support! More videos and recipes will be coming soon!

Stay tuned... :-)

  11. Hello,
First, wanted to say Thank you for sharing these recipes. Very simple ingredients and steps are easy to follow. I've found some videos with the basic dishes on YouTube, but even though the final product might taste good, the preparation process wasn't looking pleasant. I like your approach... Not only you are looking pretty and neat, but also your kitchen and everything else that was in the view of the camera. I've already tried to cook half of your dishes and planning now to surprise my husband's family (they are Haitians) with Makawoni au Graten for Thanksgiving. I'm waiting for recipe of Bouyon Bef and other soup that is made with Pumpkin and served on New Year's day. Once again, thank you for what you doing and doing it so well...

  19. Hello, my name is Dera. I am from Louisiana. I have an 11 yr old who is currently researching and studying Haiti for a school project. She chose Haiti because our family is of Creole decent as are most people in the Louisiana area. Through learning with her there are almost jdentical recipes used here as compared to your recipes. I say almost because "epis" here we use but don't puree. We chop the veggies and through them in as is and we don't use cilantro. (Although I do because I love the taste of cilantro). For her project I do want to stay true to Haiti and not mimick the Louisiana Creole even though we are taught that we are an extension of Haiti. What is a dish you can recommend that I can make for a large class but isn't a huge task as we only have a small window of time to share. Any advice would help us, thank you and I hope to try as many of your recipes as I can one. I am enjoying learning about Haiti and your YouTube has intrigued me so much. I can't wait to see how much more our cultures are alike

  20. Hi
It's always nice to see people who are interested in our culture. You have no idea how proud that makes me feel. I would strongly recommend the (macaroni au graton) (macaroni gratiné) or you could say our version of Mac and cheese it is easy and the video is on her YouTube channel. Although many times when they have an even at my little sister's school we always go with ( duri djon djon and griyo) what they call the Haitian black rice with fried porc, we do so because it is very known and people are always ask to taste the black rice.
    Hope I could help😃

  21. Please continue this blog cause I definitely relate to you in terms of getting recipes online. I'm married to a Haitian man and he loves his Haitian food (I'm Haitian American) so I have to learn all of this. Keep up the great work. Just made Labouyi Flour for the first time and it came out great. Now that I know how to make it I'll have to double the measurements cause it was that good. Thanks again!!
